Phoenix Lessons
Rise Boldly, Renew Brilliantly
When life blows up, it’s easy to get mired in the ashes of our losses and transitions. You might wander amidst the rubble of ideas you once had about your and your life, hoping you’ll be able to make something of what is left after the structure of what used to be has come crashing down.
If you’re experiencing this, know you’re not alone. The life-death-life cycle happens for almost everyone at least a few times in life.
The fabled Phoenix offers us some guidance whenever we find ourselves needing to remake our lives. Periodically she makes a nest, situates inside of it, combusts herself, and then rises again from her own ashes into a new, more spectacular version.
It would be lovely if THE BURNING wasn’t necessary for THE RISING to happen. But it is.
In Cami Ostman’s work as a therapist, she has sat with people over the decades who watched in confusion and grief as their lives came apart at the seams, while others would hold things together by staying stuck in toxic situations just so they could try to prevent their lives from “burning” down.
While it is understandable to be afraid of letting unhelpful relationships, jobs, or identities go, we ALL periodically face the need to re-evaluate and pivot our direction in life.
At this moment in time, world-wide events are necessitating changes we didn’t necessarily bank on or want.
However…the “burning” doesn’t always have to be dramatic. Unpacking old or unhelpful narratives and replacing them with new ways of thinking can be undertaken consciously, in a considered way.
It IS possible to refurbish, rebuild, and shine brighter than ever before–even after major transitions or losses.
If you are craving/needing/undergoing a BURNING or your life has already combusted and you’re in need of a RISING or REINVENTION, I’d like to invite you to Phoenix Lessons.
Need help rising again? Whether you made a decision to change your life or something happened TO you that now requires you to reinvent parts of (or all of) your life, Phoenix Lessons can give you what you need to shine brighter than ever.
Testimonials
I’m so excited to recommend this program to others. I feel so lucky to have been included in the inaugural Phoenix Lessons. I highly recommend this program that brought me face to face with self defeating attitudes I have carried around for way too long. But the best part was all the tools Cami employs to define who you are and make a blueprint for the life you want to be living. I have learned so much and the tools and techniques are things that carry on far past the last lesson If you’re on the fence, jump in with both feet. I guarantee you will learn things about yourself that have been hiding in the shadows and need to be reexamined under a new light.
This program changed my life. Through weeks of classes, class discussion, and personal journaling, I was gradually able to shift away from long-held habits of addressing others’ expectations so I could uncover my deepest goals and desires. I committed to an action plan for my life—one I didn’t know I needed—and I’m already seeing and feeling the difference. I have a new passion going forward: committing to what truly matters, to what is authentically me. I couldn’t be more grateful to Cami and her capacity for creating a safe, kind, supportive space for this journey. I hope others have the chance to benefit from this program in the way I did.

Your Guide
Cami Ostman knows what it means to rise from the ashes. At just ten years old, her family home burned to the ground—the same year her parents divorced. These early experiences of loss taught her how to let go, cultivate resilience, and reinvent herself. Since then, Cami has turned her own life’s challenges into a powerful mission: helping others transform their stories and rebuild with intention.
A former writing teacher and family therapist, Cami has guided hundreds of people through their own journeys of reinvention. Her debut book, Second Wind: One Woman’s Midlife Quest to Run Seven Marathons on Seven Continents, chronicles her personal “Phoenix moment”—leaving a marriage and a faith community to discover her inner strength and reclaim her life. Her story is proof that when one version of life goes up in flames, it’s an invitation to create something even more extraordinary.
As the founder and director of The Narrative Project and co-owner of Wayfaring Writers, Cami is an advocate for finding clarity and empowerment through storytelling. She’s the author or editor of eleven books and holds degrees in English, theater, and marriage and family therapy. Her work has been featured in Fitness Magazine, O Magazine, The Atlantic, and The Washington Post, and she contributes regularly to Adventures Northwest, the Psychology Today blog, and her own website, 7marathons7continents.com.
When she’s not coaching others on how to rise, you’ll find Cami living part-time in Seattle or savoring the solitude of her off-grid yurt nestled east of the Cascade Mountains.
Cami believes the Phoenix journey is for everyone. Your story isn’t over—it’s just beginning.
